YMCA of Central East Ontario – Quinte Region
Launches 2016 YMCA Strong Kids Campaign
Annual fundraising campaign aims to raise $230,000 to provide
opportunities for children, youth and families in Quinte Region
Quinte, ON – During National Volunteer Week, the YMCA of Central East Ontario launches its 2016 YMCA Strong Kids Campaign to ensure kids and families who have a financial need are able to access YMCA programs and services in our communities. This year, we have a goal of raising $230,000 for the Campaign in this region. Special events will be held at noon April 13, 2016 in the Belleville Branch and at noon April 14, 2016 in the City of Quinte West Branch.
The YMCA of Central East Ontario believes that every child deserves a strong, healthy start, regardless of their circumstances. A family’s health should not be determined by the neighborhood they live in or the size of their bank account. YMCA Strong Kids helps children and families access programs which increase physical activity, provide good nutrition and safe places to connect, play and learn, regardless of their ability to pay. The YMCA gives children the opportunity to belong to a supportive community while improving their physical, mental, emotional and social health. With the support of YMCA financial assistance programs and the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, we were able to welcome over 500 children, teens and young adults to our facility last year.
Each branch has a committee of volunteers that reach out to the community to close the gap between financial assistance provided and available funds. In the City of Quinte West the Volunteer Chair of the Strong Kids Campaign is Gino Leone. The Belleville Volunteer Chair, Jamie Troke says “Last year, one in five kids coming to a YMCA health, fitness & aquatics centre needed financial assistance, and that need continues. The YMCA Strong Kids fundraising campaign helps to eliminate the very real financial barriers these children face, and without it we would not be able to serve them. We want to provide a healthy, safe and positive environment where children, teens and young adults can flourish, and the YMCA Strong Kids campaign helps make that a reality.”
The YMCA of Central East Ontario provides a wide variety of programs that help people live active, healthy lives. Much needed community-based programs and services in the areas of health, fitness and aquatics; child care; youth leadership; and camps offer youth opportunities to grow in the type of healthy, caring environment all young people need and deserve.
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign kicks off with two separate events. In the Belleville branch, join Jamie and his team at the donor luncheon to be held on Wednesday April 13th at 12pm. Gino Leone and his team will be at the donor luncheon for the City of Quinte West branch Thursday April 14th at noon. If you would like to attend either of these events, please RSVP to Jennifer McTavish (email@example.com) or 613-966-9622 x 232.
YMCA Canada encourages donors to visit ymcastrongkids.ca and choose the community they wish to support. All YMCAs accept donations to the campaign throughout the year. This campaign is part of an annual campaign run by YMCAs in Canada with a total national fundraising goal of $13.6 million. The national campaign involves all 45 YMCAs and 5 YMCA-YWCAs across Canada.
